Chapter 36 - Val

Val was happy to see Gideon and Bela cleaned up and healthy. It was like they’d never been hurt. Madoc appeared irritated and had dark circles under his eyes. Val shut out her concerns about her own problems and hugged him.

“You guys look great,” she told Gideon and Bela. Dev’s passed out image penetrated her mind. “Where’s Dev?”

“That heavy bastard is on the floor in one of the other rooms, because, fuck that,” Madoc grumbled.

She peered up at him. “You put Dev to bed?”

“No, I just dragged his snoring ass into another room so those two could sleep,” Madoc complained. “Then this prick tells me Dev almost always sleeps in the same fucking room as them anyway and it would’ve been fine.” Madoc gestured to Gideon.

Gideon laughed. “He’s a heavy bastard. Hope you didn’t pull anything moving him.”

Madoc flipped off Gideon. “Next time you can fucking move him.”

As much as it bothered her, she couldn’t remember finding someone for Gideon and Bela to feed from. It didn’t bother Ren, if his posture and expression were anything to go by. Besides, it seemed that Gideon and Madoc were getting along better at least.

“It is fortuitous that Devlin is asleep. There is something we need to discuss before he wakes,” Bela announced.

“Sit with me.” Madoc tugged her onto the couch with him.

Gideon plopped beside her as Ren perched on one of the chairs. He was so still, he looked like a wax figure. Val’s legs moved, still full of nervous energy. She licked her lips and thought about Ren kissing her with his blood still on her lips. Gideon rested a hand on her thigh firmly to stop her leg from going up and down. Val turned her head to him.

“You’re making me ravenous again, love. I need you to be still.” His voice deepened with his words.

Val bit her lip and dragged her teeth across it. Gideon used his free hand to grab her by the neck as his mouth slammed against hers. It was a violent kiss, all teeth and tongues. When her lip split open, he sucked it into his mouth. His want spread from his lips, crept across her skin. Her head was spinning. She couldn’t handle all the desire directed at her.

“Gideon!” Bela’s voice was thin and strained.

Gideon reluctantly broke their kiss. “Sorry, love, I got carried away,” he mumbled, and let her go.

Val took several deep breaths to recover and glanced at both Madoc and Bela. They both seemed like they were going to blow their tops. Her hand shook as she reached for Madoc’s. Relief spread over her when he didn’t yank it away.

“Apparently, we have more to discuss,” Bela said in a nasty tone. “But first, we need to talk about what Greystone Industries has us doing. We were not just assigned to keep things under control from the recent problems with Hell. Our directive is always to conceal our world from humans, for their own protection.” Bela crossed her ankles.

“Part of why we were assigned to investigate the incidents with demon activity.
